Affirmations for My Life
“Not my circus, not my monkeys.” – Polish Proverb
My physical and mental health are important. That is why I remember and repeat “Not my circus, not my monkeys” as I go through my day. Life is full of unexpected and stressful events. Even though I cannot escape stress, I am able to choose how I handle it.
I do not let other people’s emergencies become my emergencies when it is not warranted. I expect to be treated with respect, and it starts by not letting other people walk over me and pull me into the chaos that they have created.
This does not mean that I am rude or difficult. Quite to the contrary. Instead, I respond to all people with the respect they too deserve, but I do not let myself get caught up in their drama. After all, I need to take care of my health. I deserve to have good health. My family also deserves it. When I am well, I am present in the moment and life is just better for me and those who surround me.
I refuse to get distracted and caught up in situations that do not involve me. I refuse to gossip. Instead, I live and focus on my own life. I am happy with my life, and it involves making wise choices every day.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. What kinds of situations do I find others try to get me involved in?
2. What can I do next time someone wants me to get involved in his/her drama?
3. What are benefits of not allowing myself to get caught up in other people’s emergencies?
