Why Are You Lazy

Why are you lazy is probably a common question that most of us have been asked at some point in our lives.

Probably the most lethal form of self-sabotage is laziness. This character trait can affect every area of our life, and if we don’t do anything about it, we may end up in a fix. Sometimes, the situations we find ourselves in are our own doing. It affects every aspect of our lives, and this can become even more stressful. Once we put things off and procrastinate, our responsibilities only pile up until it becomes overwhelming. When we have too many things to do, we often don’t know where to begin. There are just too many deadlines to meet, too many priorities to fulfill. So what do we do, we come up with different excuses and procrastinate even more. The snowball continues to gain momentum until there is nowhere to go but down.

We all are guilty of procrastinating, others more often than some. Could this be the cause of the recent economic difficulty? Maybe it is, but whether that assumption is true or not, putting off things does not do anyone good. People come up with so many excuses as to why they are lazy. Some say that they grew up with controlling parents that all they want to do is finally let go. When they gain responsibilities, the first thing they do is make sure that they free themselves from the chains of responsibilities. After all, they are no longer answerable to anyone but themselves.

But you can only put the blame on your past for so long. We all reach that certain age where we can’t point the finger on anyone but ourselves. When we continually blame other people, it’s because we are plain lazy to do anything about it. It is a way of throwing our hands up in defeat and saying, “Well, that’s how it was with me!”
According to Dr. Joseph Ferrari, a well known psychologist in Chicago, there are three basic types of lazy people:

1. Those who are thrill seekers who wait until the last minute so that they get into a euphoric rush when they finish the work at the very last possible minute.
2. Those who avoid work simply because they are too scared to fail. Doing it at the very last minute gives them an excuse for the mediocrity of the job they did. They would just rather put the blame on time rather on themselves.
3. Those who simply let go of the responsibility for outcomes so that they avoid making the ultimate decisions.

Whatever type you may fall under, it is important to break the unhealthy cycle. It may not be easy, but it has to be done. The biggest hurdle is accepting that you have a problem. A lazy person would rather handle things tomorrow. The only way to break the habit is to make the person realize just how much they’re losing by opting to be idle.

All of us have felt lazy at certain points in our lives. Of course, we also need days spent doing nothing, but when this becomes routine, then that’s when problems arise. If you want to gain more confidence, the only solution is to become more productive.
