3 Steps To Boosting Your Self Esteem

At some point in our lives, almost all of us encounter periods of low self esteem.

A number of things can contribute to a loss of self esteem. Low self esteem can impair our ability to move forward in life, due to lack of confidence, poor motivation, no desire, feeling hopeless, depression, anxiety, and not having a support group.

Unlike most real world problems, self-esteem isn’t always the easiest issue to solve, and can often be difficult to talk to others about.

There are many activities to help people overcome their self-esteem issues.

The following are three steps to achieving a higher self esteem:

1. Eliminating Negativity

People suffering from low self esteem tend to focus on the things they do not like about themselves. They do not seem to be able to see all the good in their life and what they have to offer.

So, the first step is to make a list of all the positive things in your life. What you do or happens on a day to day basis that makes you feel good about yourself  and the day.

Sitting down and physically writing these positive notes will make you focus more on the things that are going well in your life,

Writing down events or traits that you like about yourself will also show you what makes you happier and when your mood is elevated, which could lead to more positive habits if you continue to chase these positive moments and traits.

After making a list of what you like about yourself, it is time to start setting some short term goals.

2. The Goals

These goals can be about anything you desire that will make you a better person.

These goals can be anything such as becoming more fit and healthy, improving your diet, learning a new thing everyday, taking up a new hobby, making new friends or reconnecting with positive people from the past.

Making the goals as small as you want will increase your chances of achieving each goal.

Achieving small goals will make you feel better about yourself, boost your confidence, and motivate you.

You will begin to see your self esteem rise with every small accomplishment

Getting on the treadmill or walking for just five minutes when you have been living a sedentary lifestyle can be a major achievement. Each time you step up on the treadmill or put on your walking shoes will boost your confidence and you will soon find yourself going for six minutes, then ten minutes feeling a sense of accomplishment.

If you have trouble meeting people because of a lack of confidence that you will not know what to say or talk about then start out by going alone to a place you would like to meet and writing down a topic you wound like to discuss. This could be at a restaurant, the park or even your own back yard.

Do not make the list so long that the individual  feels they are being interrogated.

If your self esteem has been down for an extended period of time you probably have been letting things go personally and around the house.

If you have piles of paper, dishes stacked up, yard that needs mowed the thought of tacking all of those can seem overwhelming. The best approach may be to break each task down into smaller task and spend 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour on those task each day until completed.

Mow a portion or all of the front yard one day and the back yard on another day.

Clean a section of one room per day until you have completed that room then move on to the next.

The key is to perform task that will make you feel good about yourself when completed.

These smaller goals will pick up the momentum to grow your self-esteem even faster.

After acknowledging your positive traits, things that are going well for you, and achieving wins for yourself, you now have the ball rolling, and it’s time to reward yourself as the third self esteem boosting activity.

3. The Reward

Go do something that’s fun or relaxing for yourself because rebuilding your self-esteem is not an easy task.

Go out and reward yourself with new clothes, a manicure or anything that makes you feel good about you.

Rewarding yourself will improve your mood and help eliminate some of the negativity in your head.

Low self esteem or loss of self esteem leads to a vicious cycle of incomplete task, neglected relationships, and poor self. Breaking that cycle requires you to start somewhere and keep moving forward one small step at a time until you are back up on top of the world or the place you really want to be.

Breaking the cycle will improve your mood and help you look at all aspects of your life in a more positive way.
